Laws & Regulations

Alberta welcomes foreign investment, and there are generally few restrictions on investments by non-Canadians. The Canadian government monitors and screens foreign investments to assess the size and type of investment and what the net benefit would be for Canada.

To guide their investment decisions, foreign investors should consider a number of federal and provincial acts of policy and legislation that govern business and investment in Alberta, including the Investment Canada Act. Such acts regulate business competition and investment; energy sector policies; and issues of environmental protection, intellectual property, privacy and product standards.
