Branches
If a foreign corporation decides to open branch operations in Canada, it must obtain provincial registration or a license from the province where the business will be undertaken. A branch is not legally distinct from its parent; therefore, the parent is exposed to the debts, liabilities and obligations of the Canadian branch.
A corporation must also determine if its business name is available to use in Alberta by obtaining a Newly Upgraded Automate Name Search (NUANS) report.
