Alberta's Aerospace & Defence Industry

Alberta is highly regarded for its capabilities in the aerospace industry. There are over 170 companies in the aerospace and defence sector offering a wide range of aerospace goods and services, particularly in the niches of robotics and unmanned vehicle systems (UVS); defence electronics; space sciences and aerospace geomatics; manufacturing, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MMRO); and, logistic support to the military. An interactive map of these companies was developed with help from the University of Alberta’s Western Centre for Economic Research, and is portrayed through Google Maps here.

Alberta's aerospace and defence companies employ over 5,000 highly skilled Albertans, with the majority of industry employees contributing engineering, technical or management expertise.

The players in Alberta's aerospace sector are competitive both nationally and in the world market. With increasing globalization, Alberta's value as an industry location will continue to grow.
